THE TIMELINE

Everything, in order, as it actually happened.

Not a polished origin story written after the fact. This is the real sequence — the idea, the decisions, the dead ends — dated and updated as it happens. New entries get emailed to the waitlist too.

THE ORIGIN

Ruthless Ideas exists to close one gap.

The gap between "I have an idea that won't leave me alone" and "I have something real." Iced Slatez is that gap, closed in public, in real time — the first thing the company has tried to actually ship.

The idea started bigger than a mousepad. A control surface for the grind, and a hidden reset for the moment right after — the one nobody posts about. Building it honestly, on a real timeline, with a real budget, meant starting smaller than the whole vision. This page is that starting point, not the ceiling.

Founders don't just get a pad early. They get to watch — and push — where this goes next.

Here's exactly where this stands.

THE BUILD LOG

This isn't a finished pitch. It's what I actually know, updated as I know it. Every real entry here gets emailed to the waitlist too.

One chemistry, two form factors — and a second product.

Worked out the real formulation: erythritol/xylitol for genuine endothermic cold (activated by moisture — your own sweat, no water bottle needed) plus WS-23 for a perceived-cold boost, finished with alcohol-free witch hazel. Same coating goes on the mousepad AND a new product — the Iced Slatez Rag, a portable wipeable cloth for the moment you're away from your desk. One reaction, two access points: the pad is "it's already there," the rag is "take it with you." Hard safety rules locked for both: formaldehyde-free microcapsules only, no urea/ammonium chloride, WS-23 capped below eye-irritation threshold and kept out of eye-contact zones. Both still need a professional cosmetic-safety review before any manufacturing step.

Talked to real people. The pitch was too narrow.

Went and actually asked people about this instead of assuming. Most didn't relate to the "2am panic" framing at all — that problem wasn't as common as I thought. But almost everyone lit up at the actual mechanic: a cold reset, without getting wet, wherever you already are. Nurses on long shifts, people mid-workout, anyone at a desk. The idea is bigger than the original pitch. Site's being rebuilt around that.

Domain live, pricing set, email actually works.

icedslatez.com is fully connected. Ran the real numbers on cost vs. giving — landed on founder pads funding 50 meals, launch pads funding 100, plus 5% of profit to suicide prevention, tiered so the math actually holds up instead of just sounding good. Welcome emails now send from our own domain.

Locked the actual design.

One pad, not two pieces. Matte black on top, hidden yellow underneath, revealed only when you flip a corner — with a black edge binding so the yellow never shows until you want it to. This is the real spec now, not just a mood board.

Where this actually started.

Saturday, July 11th, around 10pm — the idea hit. By midnight, about two hours later, it clicked why it mattered: this wasn't just a product idea, it was a way to actually help people. Everything since then — the design, the pricing, the mission, the honesty rules — has been trying to earn that first instinct instead of losing it.

Next up: professional safety review on the formulation, and figuring out whether the waitlist needs to become a real data tracker (use-case breakdown, purchase intent, safety flags) instead of just an email list. Posted here the moment either resolves.
